Donny wearing the great pnw woodsy shirt

I’m going to say no. I actually think that Wentz is a decent quarterback, and unless Washington wanted to trade for the still-dicey Deshaun Watson, he was probably the best remaining QB on Donny wearing the great pnw woodsy shirt now that Aaron Rodgers and Russell Wilson are set for 2022. But Washington violated a rule of business that extends beyond professional football: don’t pay for something you can get for free. Specifically – and even though I disagree with the team – Indianapolis had been angrily leaking since the end of the regular season that they were upset with Wentz and were going to release him this month before he was owed more guaranteed money. Usually, teams at least attempt to keep a poker face and pretend that a player everyone knows will be cut is a prized possession, but the Colts disliked Wentz so much that they shot themselves in the foot, told the entire world that he was heading towards the exits after just one season, and depressed his market value. What this should have told Washington (beyond just that talent aside, Wentz may be more trouble than he’s worth) was that if the team could be patient, Wentz would be released and the team could sign him to a “prove it” deal and still keep its draft picks. And if Washington was convinced that some other team would swoop in on a trade or that it couldn’t sign Wentz, if it at least went down to the wire, it likely could have gotten Wentz for a single mid-round pick and probably gotten Indy to eat some of his salary. Instead, Washington is sending multiple picks to Indianapolis and picking up the entirety of Wentz’s $28 million salary. The rumor is that Washington outbid Denver for Russell Wilson but that Seattle preferred to send him to the AFC (or Wilson wouldn’t waive his no-trade clause). Either way, this feels like an impulsive move by Washington; having struck out on the big prize in the trade market, the Commanders overpaid for a consolation prize. Even if Wentz ultimately pans out, this wasn’t smart management.
